S & S Guild Flag Guild meetings run from 10 AM to about 2 PM. Bring your lunch or snack and beverage of choice. The meetings in February, March and April at the Rollie Noble Room in the Post Office building on the Main Street in Newark Valley and have usually been hands on teaching for people who would like to come and try spinning. We can have extra spinning wheels and materials brought over from the Farmstead for these meetings. You are always welcome to bring your spinning and/or other fiber project you are working on or have questions about. During warm weather we generally meet at the Bement-Billings Farmstead that is located on the left just north of Newark Valley on Route 38. Our focus is education and sharing skills and information. If there is a project or skill you would like to share a or you would like to present a program, please let a Guild member know. See the Calendar below for the exact location of any specific date.

April 13th Bement-Billings Farmstead. Clean up weaving room, inventory the guilds things. Also, there is interest in warping Clare de Loom so we will discuss a project.

June 8th & 9th Central New York Fiber Festival, Bouckville
July 13th Farmstead Dying. Bring materials to dye. We canít do large quantities so small skeins and/or fleece for samples is lots of fun.
August 10th Newark Valley Days on the Green in front of Post Office. Sit and spin or work on current project. Some vendors and food is available. Great parade too!
September 7th & 8th Endless Mountains Fiber Festival, Harford, PA

September 21st & 22nd Finger Lakes Fiber Festival, Hemlock, NY

Guild meetings start at 10 AM and run until about 2 PM. We generally have a brief business meeting first. Bring your spinning wheel, drop spindle or current fiber project. We have show and tell and hands on help with work. Bring your lunch and beverage.

2012 Calendar (Revised Feb.26, 2012)

January 14 Roc Day, Hosted by Black sheep Hand Spinners from 10 AM to 4PM. This fun event will be held at All Saints Church Parish Hall, 347 Ridge Rd. (Rte 34B), Lansing. This is across from Lansing Schools on the corner of 34B and Myers Rd. Parking is behind the Church. For more information go to www.blacksheephandspinnersguild.org. Bring a dish to pass and your own dishes and table service. If you have never been, this is a great event to meet new people, there are usually a number of vendors (if your fiber and/or equipment stash is low) and there are a number of workshops. February 11 Rollie Noble Room at the Post Office Bldg. in Newark Valley. Gail and Barb will be doing demonstrations on the triangle and rectangle frame looms. If you've heard of these interesting looms and wondered how they work, this will be a good opportunity to see them in actions. There are many things you can do with the end products. May 5 & 6Barnyard Craft Sale. Gailís studio 11 AM to 4 PM. Sit and spin, weave, visit, see the animals. Buy and sell handcrafted items. Directions: Approx. 1 mile east of the stop light in Spencer on Rt. 96. Turn on Dawes Hill. Go up the hill and watch for the Llama sign at the driveway. Come on up, parking is past the house up by the barn.
June 9&10Central New York Fiber Festival at Bouckville, NY. Many of our Guild members will have booths there. Stop and visit us.
July 14Bement Billings Farmstead, Newark Valley. We will be doing a dying workshop. Primarily natural dyes. If you have fleece or yarn youíd like to dye, bring it. This is always a fun day. End results of dying are often surprising and unusual.
August 11Newark Valley Days. As we did last year, we will have a tent/booth on the Green in front of the Post Office. Bring your spinning, weaving or fiber project and enjoy the day.
September 8 & 9Endless Mts. Fiber Fest in Harford, Pa. Some of our members will be there demonstrating and selling.
Finger Lakes Fiber Fest in Hemlock, NY. Again, some of our members will be there. This is a great venue for shopping, workshops and animals. Check their website for more information as sit becomes available.
October 6 & 7Apple Fest at the Farmstead. The guild usually spins and weaves. There are vendors and food is available. It is often COLD and WINDY, but we have fun.
October 20 & 21New York State Sheep and Wool Festival at Rhinebeck, NY.
November 10Holiday Party. Location and time to be announced later.

We will be handing out fiber samples of many different types ( cotton, bamboo, flax, silk, soy, etc, etc.) to take home and try AND bring back to show how they turned out using your methods of spinning. The meeting will be about beginning weaving. Hands on simple loom types and the tools used. As always bring your show and tell.

April 16 CNY Wool & Fiber Frolic. Beaver Lake Nature Center, 8477 East Mud Lake Road, Baldwinsville, NY. This is not a regular meeting but inserted for information only.
May 7,8 Open House at Gailís at her studio in Spencer. - 10am - 5pm - Come sit and spin, visit, see the animals. Buy and sell handcrafted items. Directions: Appx. 1 mile east of the stop light in Spencer on Rt 96 turn on Daws Hill. Go up the hill and watch for the LLama signs at the driveway - come on in - parking is past the house up at the barn.
May 14 Bement Billings Farmstead, Newark Valley. Spin and work on projects. If you have spun the samples from February's meeting, bring to show and share.
June 11 AGAIN MOST OF OUR MEMBERS WILL BE AT THE BOUCKVILLE CNY FIBER FEST. CNY Fiber Artists & Producers Showcase. Butternut Hill Campground, Route 20, eastern edge of Bouckville, NY Hours 10 AM - 5 PM. The Farmsted should be open so if any one would like to come to the to sit and spin on the side porch of the weaving barn they are more than welcome. Bement Billings Farmstead, Newark Valley.
July 9 Bement Billings Farmstead, Newark Valley. Natural dying. If you have fleece or yarn you would like to dye, bring it. Dye day is always fun. You never know what the final color will look like.
August 13 Sorry that this has been a year for changes. The August meeting will be at the Village Green in Newark Valley. Saturday the 13th is their Community Days event. Denise was contacted and asked if we would meet there and demonstrate. She has reserved a tent for us to gather under (thanks Denise). Please remember there is no meeting in September as many of the members will be at the Fiber Festivals at Harford, PA and Hemlock NY. Next meeting will be October 1st at Apple Fest. We will be there for both Saturday and Sunday. If you are able, please join us for both days.

This year the event will be at the 1St Congregationalist Church, 309 Highland Ave. Ithaca (this is in the area called Cayuga Hgts.)

November 14 Guildís annual Christmas party. This year at Denise Tarbox home on 2511 Howard Hill Rd., Newark Valley. 11:00 AM Bring dish to pass or a snack for lonch. Activity: Plan next year.
